What is a EC / PPM Meter?
An EC (Electrical Conductivity) meter is used to check the overall strength on a nutrient solution.
Pure distilled water has no resistance and doesn’t conduct electricity. When “impurities” are added to water (minerals and fertilizer) it will then conduct electricity.
The higher the conductivity means a higher concentration of nutrients.
EC is measured as Micro Siemens per Centimetre (µs / cm).
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) is a measurement that tells you how many Parts Per Million (PPM) of dissolved solids exist in a solution. PPM measurements are usually calculated by multiplying the EC (ms/cm) by 500. Some meters use a different number so it’s recommended to trust EC overall.
